Default Shaking Clutch

I just recently bought a 1995 firebird formula. The car itself has 79k miles on it. When I bought the car the guy I bought it from said that he just replaced the clutch and shaved the flywheel. But in first gear the car shakes really bad, it does not do this after first gear. I dont know much about gm products but I do know that on my 1989 mustang if it shacked like that it ment that there was grease on the clutch. Is that my problem or is this a normal thing?
Thanks Brandon

Most likely it is Chatter, the most common causes of chatter is either the clutch facings are contanimated with oil/grease, the marcel of the disc is gone ( Marcel is the springing action of the two clutch facing halves, when you squeeze the two clutch facings together there has to be some cushion or spring to it), or the disc was bumped on installation & is running out of round. Pretty much anyway you look at it the tranny will have to come out.

Ok that is what I figured. Should I get the flywheel resurfaced? I heard somewhere that it may work if you burn/ride your clutch but that doesnt make much sense because it would just spread the grease right? Is there any other to fix this with replacing everything?
Thanks Brandon

Definately get the flywheel resurfaced or replace the whole flywheel. Once oil/grease gets into the facing, the disc will have to be replaced. We have had several customers try to use brake-clean to clean up the facing, but all it does is make the linings swell up. Then when you go to put it all back in it it won't release. It is easier & cheaper in the long run just to replace the kit.

Man that is not what I wanted to hear. Should I just replace the flywheel or do the whole setup. The guy relpaced it not even 300 miles ago.
Thanks Brandon

I would pull it down first & see what is going on and then make a decision on the flywheel. You never know what someone else has done to the vehicle. You really can't make a judgement on what they did or what was replaced till the tranny gets pulled and you an see for yourself.

Cool thanks for all of the information. I guess I will have to deal with it until I have the money to replace it.
Thanks Brandon
