Ive always wondered about this. If youre in 6th doing about 60 and you need to stop do you slow down to about 1000 rpms then push the clutch in, or do you just push it in to begin with, or shift into a higher gear or what? Whats the "proper" procedure?
Thanks

Proper is what you choose to care about. I would rather wear out my brakes every year than wear my clutch and engine. I can replace my brakes in about an hour, a clutch takes way longer.

If I was in 6th and had to come to a lazy stop without any evasive maneuvers, I'd use the brake until a few 100 RPM above my idle, then depress the clutch. When I'm in a pack of vehicles I prefer to downshift no slower than 2K to insure I can still scoot out of danger. $0.02.
