Exactly how much fluid for a t56 tremec
ok i got 2001 with the 6spd t56 its the tremec ifit makes any diffrence, i do not have a owners manual so i got no idea about how much fluid, i wanna change my tranny fluid to the penzoil syncrmesh but i dont have a way to get it up in the air level to fill till it pours out, so i wanna know what is the exact amount of fluid for it so i can fill it on an angle and just cap it and go

about 3.8 L or 4 quarts...
I found it was MUCH easier to fill when I filled it from the shifter. Took all but 5 min to disassemble the console.
head on to www.installuniversity.com for a write up on how to change shifters so you can get it filled properly.

If you are looking for a good synthetic, I fully endorse Specialty Formulations fully synthetic trans fluids...

I have done it two diff ways. When I used the fill hole on the side of the tranny I took a long piece of clear rubber tubing and taped a funnel to the end of it and ran the other end down by the headers on the driver side and into the fill hole. I filled it til it started coming out and voila.
Then after putting in the new clutch I did it through the shifter, it was easier and faster IMO, but I already had it all apart so it was the logical thing to do. In both cases it took 4 qts to fill it up. I also use Pennzoil Synchromesh and love it.

I put Mobil 1 in last month. As long as its Dexron III and is NOT hygroscopic (ie absorbs water) it is fine. Since Redline is based off esters, and esters have a tendency to absorb water (even from the atmosphere) I would NOT let that stuff come near my car. Our transmissions are vented and thus moisture can get in. Different oils, difference in driving, different care will determine "if" you can run synthetic or not.
Also it was subtle, but I flushed my transmission with standard dexron III oil. I ran it for a day and 300 odd miles then flushed. I noted that the transmission WAS smoother running Mobil 1 from cold start. Other than cold start, normal operating temp felt the same.

I skimmed that whole thread and just got a lot of back and forth, with no real resolution. My trans has just been re-built with all the high end goodies, and only has 300 miles on the RP synchromesh I added. Little notchy, but I figure things have to wear in a bit. So, short answer, should I dump it and run GM synchromesh?
