Default STAR Clutches

Can I drop in the Stage 3 clutch and not use a adjustable master cylinder?

Plan on dropping your tranny soon after when the clutch blows up . Seriously, if you haven't bought the clutch yet go with something else. McCleod and Ram have some very proven setups that work great. My Star Stage 3 clutch lasted 2K miles and one pass at the track before it blew up, destroying my tranny in the process. After the clutch f-cked me, so did Star with their customer service....

Josh,
I hate it that we have to keep meeting like this..LOL

Gold Phoenix,

I have been running the SPEC stage III for about 11,000 miles with the '01 master cylinder (non-adjustable.) SPEC recommends the stock master cylinder. I like the clutch, I haven't had any problems with the clutch itself, just the bleeding of the hydraulics.

I had the star spec stage 3 kevlar one, it was a damn good clutch and held up real well, all you have to do is make sure you break it in really well...

I understand, I try to the the same and give credit where it is due.. I took a big chance when I ordered their clutch because I believe I saw your post and a couple of others about their experiences right when it was time to order. But, I also heard alot about the Mcleod clutches blowing out. Oh well, all's fair right?

BTW, what clutch setup are you running? Are you using the upgraded hydraulics w/adjustable master? I am currently having some major hydraulic issues right now, and I did upgrade mine.

I have the spec stage 2... The adj master is necessary from what I read for most. There seem to be flukes here and there that don't need it. My tranny guy had to put a mcleod shim in just to make it work cause it wouldn't work with a non adjustable. Now I have the adjustable. The clutch seems to have lasted a long time so far... since last summer. I am having other issues now though... not sure what is causing them... might not have anything to do with the clutch... it still bites hard.

This setup ROCKS. Almost to streetable to hold that much power, but it HOLDS. I have beat the living **** out of this clutch since I put it in the car (no break in ) and it's worked flawlessly 2000 miles later with no signs of giving up anytime soon. One thing I couldn't stand about the Star clutch was that it rattled my damn teeth out. The Ram clutch is nice and smooth, with a little extra grab from a stop...

Josh,

Do you know what exactly Cartek does to their adjustable masters? Do they basically just do like most of the "home made" adjustables, or do they replace the piston with a larger bore? I am having a major problem with my clutch sticking to the floor. It just started a couple of weeks ago, so I thought I could bleed it and make it better. But it got worse, now I can not even drive it hard because the clutch pedal will stay on the floor after third gear. I am going to try to bleed it a different way today, but if that doesn't work, I will try an adjustable master. I just don't want to pay 100.00 for something I can make myself. I really don't want to pay 200.00 for something that (in my opinion) is terribly over priced.

Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin, I agree with you on both points. Paying 100 bucks for something you could make yourself isn't practical. I have never seen a McCleod unit in person so I can't comment.

As for the Cartek, it's basically a home made stock adj. master. I only paid 65 bucks for mine, but thats because I fuggin SUCK at fabricating ****

Josh,

Well, I just played my last card with trying to bleed the clutch . I guess I am going to have to try the adjustable master. Hopefully, I will have better luck with that.

I'll see you at the next SPEC post..LOL

gold phoenix yes you can drop in the clutch with the stock master, that is what is reccomended actually.

this clutch (gen 1 stage 3) retains all of the stock clutch's dimensions and thickesses so any problems would be hydraulic.
