Default Wierd clutch question.....

alright.. i just finished my 408 build, got her tuned, put in a new race built transmission and got everything buttoned down... i ran the car without a tune for a while and got it dynod, it put down 420 RWHP untuned on stock manifolds, stock intake, stock filter, stock cats, stock everything but the motor pretty much.

well... heres the problem.. the clutch has NEVER slipped before...

now we just got done installing the new transmission and the tune. PCMforless took care of a baseline mail order tune until i get it dyno tuned on nitrous. The car now runs VERY well... no sputtering, no surging.. just runs very nice...

now that we got everythign back together when im dricing along in 3rd or 4th gear and punch it the clutch will slip to 5k, and sit at 5k then grab hard after a second and send me sideways. it does it most the time but not always..

BUT..

if i go from a dig... 1-2-3, the clutch WILL NOT SLIP... it BITES hard and keeps biting all the way through power shifts at 7k... i cant get it to slip...

the clutch is a SPEC stage 3 + with billet steel flywheel. the clutch has about 2k miles on it now and was broken in 100% by the book nice and easy.. i have never really raced the car much or beat it up yet and im wondering if the clutch has not totally broken in yet?

anybody have any ideas? it almost feels like the clutch is not fully engaging the flywheel.. my pedal is RIGHT at the top when it disengages...

i have also replaced the reservoir and the lines and the fluid when i replaced the clutch.

i also installed the SHIM that comes with the spec clutches... im wondering if i should not have installed it but im hoping there is another option as i REALLY dont wanna pull the trans/torque tube assembly again.. but im thinking removing the shim would give it THAT much more to engage fully...

i REALLY need help guys... this car has been down and up so many times i cant count... breaking parts, upgradeing everything.. its finally a solid car. and i would REALLY like to not take it apart again if i dont have to.

I am having the same problems with the exact clutch and flywheel setup, only mine is slipping in 6th. If I row the gears it performs flawlessly. If I am on the highway in 6th and need to pass someone and I give it a little gas it slips.

I called spec 2 times and one guy said it was the tranny, the other said it sounded like I was beeing to easy on the clutch when getting broken in. So who knows. The transmission shops I have called all say it is the clutch and not the tranny.

hrmm.. i just had my transmission rebuild by T56 rebiuilds.com.. they replaced EVERYTHING... it is DEFINATELY not the transmission...

hrmmm... im pretty sure when i bought my spec clutch they told me to drive it super easy for break in period... and now they are teling me i was too easy on it?? hrmmmm... im definately not very happy about that...

when i called them they said to take the little spacer out. they said that it might not be letting the clutch fully engage...

my question is... who is going to pay to get it fixed now?? im definately not very happy about this... i installed everything correctly and now i have to take my trans/dif/torque tube/entire rear cradle out to take out a spacer and HOPE that it fixes it??? hrm.... sounds pretty rediculous to me..

ya it maybe something as simple as the spacer. My release point on the clutch is high just like your's and I have the shim in as well.

But like you said who is going to pay for it.

luckily i do all my own work... but now i have to have my car down and tear the damn thing apart again... and im NOT very happy about it... if it is the shim then i should not have been told to put it in in the first place.. sounds to me like that would be THEIR fault and not mine..

ya, but usually when you rebuild a t-56 they shim some of the metal off the tranny so the shim is usefull. If you take the shim out and it works let me know, as I will most likey do it then.

my transmission is mounted in the rear of my car... the slave cylinder doesnt bolt to the trans.. but they still told me to put the shim in...

oh sorry I was thinking f-body. haha. We both may not need the shim in there then. My tranny isn't built yet. Was going to do that this summer, but I don't want to rebuild it if the clutch is a piece of ****.
