Get a friend on the inside of the car, give him a couple flat bladed screwdrivers and a flashlight. He can direct you and also pry the master between the cylinder and the edge of the firewall in the right direction/rotation with the screwdrivers. To help line everything up, hook the master cylinder rod to the clutch pedal. Your buddy pushing the clutch pedal in and out will help line it up and adjust it's position as well. I found it best to leave slight pressure on the clutch pedal, about 1/2 inch depression. To put the u-bolt in straight, I layed on my front over the engine bay (gut on the strut tower, feet hanging over the front driver side headlight), directly in front of the master, managed to get a couple of fingers on the u-bolt on the right side with my right hand and my left hand around and under the brake booster, wasn't too bad from that point on. You must not allow more than a few threads of the bolt to go in any one side at a time, if you push in one side of the bolt more than about 3 threads, pull it back a bit, otherwise the other side will not want to go. Basically, both sides of the u-bolt at the same time, or work it one side then the other, just a little bit at a time.

I replaced my clutch master cylinder last might and I put my line under the steering shaft so that it would not rub. You will need two people to get the master lined back up.

Under! No other option...

(I feel for you, I had "had it" with my car when I tried to install my master...)

The secret to installing the u-bolt is to use two hands, one on each side of the brake booster.
