Default Another SPEC piece of junk

well i put a spec 3 in my car last fall. *EDIT*it has about 6,000 miles on it + or - some right around there though and that's THE LIFE OF THE CLUTCH***it lasted my 6k miles ...anyways. i had nothing but problems when it went in (should have thrown it away then) between nothing being balanced when i got it. and the flywheel wasn't even machined flat.
on my way out to the Michigan F-Body Meet 'n' Greet that was yesterday my spec decided that it was done. it wouldn't go into any gear. and basically wouldn't DISengauge. my good friend brought his truck/trailer out and towed me home.
i ripped it apart today and look what i found...anyone else have this problem ever?? (i believe ever problem imaginable has happened from spec products after reading in here)

as you can imagine....i am EXTREMELY PISSED OFF. the only good thing about this spec clutch is i have learned to drop my trans by myself in no time at all

and to show my sincere happiness for such a quality product!

If I read it right, you bought it used...buying a used clutch is always a gamble

Oh ok, my apologies. Always makes me think twice about Spec. My stage 1 is already slipping and it has maybe 2500 miles on it...

no problem...guess i was still a little mad while typing that and it didn't all come out right. yeah i WOULD expect something like that from a used clutch...from a brand new $400 clutch and however much more i paid for the flywheel...this should have never happened.

so anyone have any good ideas on a new clutch. this sucks so bad because i just got my new 9 inch in last sunday! i granny drove this car for the week and saturday it went. im gonna have to dip in the savings account to cover a new clutch after i just dished out a few G's for the 9"

It looks like the disc hub contacted the flywheel. How and why did that happen? Was this a Spec flywheel?

Another broken spring on a Spec 3. I've seen this countless times.

Better to go with a springless Spec 4 or 5 or simply not a Spec at all.

Spec clutches are biggest pieces of crap. I have one and I am not at all happy with it. The chattering is horrible.

Ill never install another spec on my car, even if it is given to me for free.

SS4Matt.....sorry for you loss. If it is any conselation, you just solved my problem. I have posted in this forum that I have a spec clutch that came with my car and a lightweight flywheel as well. The other day, the darn thing would not go in gear with the car running. If I turn it off, goes through the gears just fine. But if I put in gear with car off and then start it, its halfway engauged. Repair guy thought one of the fingers was busted. In looking at your pics and description of not going into any gear and won't disengauge, I think my problem is the same as yours.

ls7 clutch handles 440whp on a stock car..so your 390 shouldn't be a problem.

yeah jaxnorth, i think i read your thread and was like...yep...same ****....yes i also had the spec billet steel flywheel. i will never go with a spec clutch ever again, nor will i ever have anything good to say about spec, nor would i EVER recommend spec to someone else. from the get-go when i got my clutch/flywheel BRAND NEW it WAS NOT BALANCED and the flywheel wasn't machined flat. i took it back out, only half the disk was touching the flywheel, the other half was BRAND NEW NEVER TOUCHED at all! i sent it to spec to have it "warrantied" and they took a DA to the damn flywheel DID NOT RESURFACE IT, as well as they didn't even balance it for me! 3 weeks later waiting for their crap, i get the same POS back, took it to a machine shop and paid another $130 to get it machined and balanced.

i don't know why the hell that spring fell out, or why anything else broke for that matter, the clutch had 6k EASY and i mean EASY miles on it. i NEVER launched my car with this clutch, and anytime i DID get on my car with this clutch, i never "power shifted" i would just roll into it with whatever gear i was in.

this clutch also chattered and made more noise than i have EVER heard in my life!

bottom line....im getting really ******* good at taking my trans in and out..... and i just ordered an LS2 flywheel and LS7 clutch from Jasen at T56 Rebuilds.com (sponsor, Thanks guys!) it should be here tomarrow or saturday. when it gets in i'll be sure to report, but i have heard nothing but good things from these LS7 clutches, as well as i've drove 2 different C6 Z06's (my best friends dad owns a chevy dealership!) so i know what to expect from it....i just can't wait im so fed up with spec and their bullshit

If you all had done your homework you wouldn't have put SPECs in there to begin with.
