Is the bellhousing bolt pattern the same on all GenIII motors?
I am planning on dropping an LS1 in my 96 tacoma 4x4 within the next few months but there's no way that the 5spd I have now would handle 450-500+ hp that I'm hoping for. I don't want an automatic even though it may be a wiser choice. I was initially thinking about running a 5spd truck tranny with it's tcase, but I don't think the ratios would be so great for my intentions, nor do I think that it would be quite strong enough in the long run. So, I think that a T56 with a divorced NP205 might be my best bet. I'm leaving the truck stock height, so even with the added weight and shorted rear shaft I think I would still be in decent shape. I also plan on leaving the front suspension relatively stock, so a Ford 205 would still have the needed driver's side drop, without buying extremely costly tcase adapters.
Any thoughts? comments? concerns?
