Default M6 and M5 tranny issues that are similar

My friend's '95 z28 with a t56 AND my '93 S10 2.8L with a 5 speed both have similar symptoms.

Both easily go into gear with the car off. But have difficulty going into gear when the car is running, especially reverse. Today is a good example: My buddy's car starts up and he is able to put it in gear, as well as reverse. He only drives a couple of miles without any issues. But on the drive back, after he romps on it, it can no longer be shifted back into gear, only in park.

TIA for the help.

Well , at first I thought both had clutch release issues. Both vehicles came with T5s and very similar systems. Next ,I was confused that I mis- read the concern because you spoke of placing it in park- clearly an automatic maneuver. What are you talking about?

Sorry, I meant to say, "it can no longer be shifted back into gear, only when the car is turned off." Both are manuals the '95 Z28 with a t56 and the '93 S10 with a 5 speed manual tranny.

If it can only shift with the power off, it is your clutch not releasing. Start with a vac. bleed.
