if you do the drill mod what i do is fill up the resevoir with fluid, have the bleeder closed, pump up the pedal like 20-30 times, open the bleeder and you should have some flow, just let it flow out and it will get at a decent steady pace, and just top off the resevoir once or twice, worked for me.

From reading this thread and some of the bad things about using the mity vac.

First off, it's not a cure all. From some of the posts, it would seem that some people have other issues with the clutch system that the mity vac and other bleeding procedures may or may not help. So the mity vac gets a bad rap.

Second, because someone put to much vacuum on the master cylinder or possibly had something wrong with the unit, and the seals are damaged the mity vac gets another bad rap.

There is nothing wrong with using the mity vac if it's done like the write ups suggest and there's nothing wrong when using the bleeder screw. It's what works best for you.

For me and others the mity vac works great. It's the same debate f-body or Mustang. Which is better.

These are the 2 write ups using the mity vac

I'll preface this with the fact that I do NOT own an fbody. I do however have a similiar clutch setup, a McLeod Master, and internal slave on a push clutch with a T56. When I got the thing set up, I could not for the life of me get a firm pedal or working clutch. It seems the mity vac would keep sucking fluid along with airbubbles all day long. I put an additional line on the slave, allowing me access to both "ends" of the system from the engine compartment. I could add vacuum on either end, and not get a frim pedal. I finially gave in to the instructions that came with the McLeod (slave or master - not sure which, but I think master) that said PRESSURE bleed. Bought a tank type bleeder ball that has a air-chamber/bladder inside, used it ONCE and had instant solid pedal.
It seems the McLeod master seal is not very good at all in dealing with vacuum forces, and easily lets in air in a vacuum.

I've used the mity vac, but I do have to pump the pedal 4-5 times if I have the clutch pedal depressed for any length of time since the pressure will diminish. I had the car in the dealer for some body work and the tech had to kill the engine to put it in gear each time - car was stalling, etc which is embarassing. I'm going to pull the master, do the drill mod, bench bleed, and then do the convential bleed method.

Aside from fluid loss (which I don't experience), how do you know if the master/slave is bad vs. just air in the system? This has been an ongoing nightmare.

Thanks!

I tried the mity vac last night and it saved me the hassle of going under the car and yelling back and forth with my wife....The mity vac works great and I wouldn't do it any other way now. Thanks Mity Vac

I bled my clutch a different way using the mityvac. I used the vacuum to pull fluid out of the brake fluid bottle, into the slave, up through the lines and into the reservoir. Worked great. You still have to get under the car and mess with the bleeder though.

Old burnt fluid will ruin your seals, and just make the problem worse. So by running new fluid through the system, you are also extending the life of your master/slave.
Flush the system with gravity, bleed with a mity vac.

I just used the vac, I had 1.5 " of travel. Fluid was black. Sucked out the black fluid (color change from worn seals). 10 " of vaccum. Puped the clutch 150 to 200 times. No more travel. works like a charm. Also my shift points have changed closer to the top.

I used it on my current set up and it worked out great. Just follow the directions and you won't have problems. I didn't take it past 10 vacume- didn't want to kill the seals in the slave.

Are there any seals in the Slave to ruin w/ the MityVac, or is it only the Master Cylinder that is 'supposedly' gets ruined by the vacuum?

And I say supposedly because ppl have said that MityVac DOES affect the seals and some have said that it DOESN'T affect the seals.

Never used it on mine, but it prolly would have saved me the 2 full ******* hours it took to bleed it on the car.... At least I know I got clean fluid...

I think J-Rod was one of the people who were saying the MityVac might ruin the Master Cylinder seals...

Just curious to see if the M/C is the cause of my 'dragging' clutch or myabe the tranny finally needs to be rebuilt @ 123K miles.

It ruined the master cylinder on my dads car.
