whats the difference and can you interchange them?

I might be wrong...but i think the gearing is different and I think there is something to do with either the input shaft or shifter location...im not positive on this but its something to get you started.

If its a std vette, the gear ratios are the same.The Z06 is different. Although there are many common parts, there are many different parts. The two will not exchange easily. The shifter on a vette is mounted forward of the trans on the troque tube( its a transaxle). The Fcar is casting-mounted at the rear. Castings, gears, synchros, and shafts are different as well.

Are you talking about a C5/C6 or a C4? The C5 & newer are definately not interchangeable. The C5 mounts to the torque tube in front, and mounts directly to the rear differential in back. The f-body mounts to the engine up front, and mounts to the driveshaft in back. So no...
