Default Noobie: Clutch Change Question?

I am about to change the clutch of my 1998 z for the first time.. ( Installing a Z06 clutch , pressure plate, flywheel and throwout bearing.. etc..

Do I need to buy both the master and slave cylnders - ( UPDATED 2001-up)
to complete the swap.

Or do I just buy the slave cylinder..

WHAT OTHERS THINGS MIGHT I NEED.

Help aprecitated..

You dont have to buy either to complete the swap, but you might as well put a new slave in. If it dies its gonnn **** you off because you'll have to drop the tranny again to get to it.

If you have the money, go ahead and replace the master just so its new and it wont be a worry to you later on down the road.

Make sure to have an extra jack for the transmission and plenty of jackstands. A ratchet with a swivel head will make the bolts on the top of the tranny much easier to get.

I would replace both of them, and it wont hurt to replace the pilot bearing, I even replaced the pilot bushing when I replaced the slave.

Personally, I wouldnt use locktite, you never know whats gonna happen and you'll have to drop the tranny again. Its just personal preference though.

the slave is about $60 but not necessary and neither is a master.

WRONG

Don't listen to this info. A good slave can be up to $130 & IS needed on a 98' model car getting a new clutch installed. If this is not replaced it can cause you problems later.

As for the master, some people go ahead & swap them out some do not. I still have mine & its working fine for now.

I'm changin out the master also, just so I know everything will be in good working order when I get it all back together. I dont want to fix everything but the master, and have it go bad soon after I just replaced everything.

Okay.. Slave and Master!

Looked them up on Gmpartsdirect.com , their expensive..
over $ 200 for both master and slave..

I went to Oreily's and had the master $76 some odd bucks
and the slave $64 bucks, also I can get 30% discount..

Will these also work?/

Go buy a swivel 13mm socket, you'll need it.

Definitely do the pilot bearing.

get the slave from summit, $110.
