Well hell froze over today guys. I called a local dealer today asking to get my transmission looked at. I told them I had a H/C/I/N car and that my trans was popping out of 3rd and it was very difficult to shift. I mentioned there was a TSB on the 00 T56s.Gave him the TSB # and to my surprise he said he was looking forward to getting my car so he could check it out. I took it up there after lunch and I couldnt believe how cool they were. He said it should be ready the middle of next week.

My question is, is there anything special I should ask for when they go in the transmission? Are there any upgradable parts from the dealer that will make my trans any stronger? I have 35k on the clock now, so I know this will be the only time I will get this lucky so i wanna do it right the first time. Thanx again guys.

 

Ask them if they can put some viper parst in the t-56 if you supplied them.Your car is moving by the way bro.Oh almost forgot that would be the input shaft which is steel insead of aluminum and the 3-4 fork.

Ron are they gonna rebuild your transmission? Or just replace it? Hopefully they will just replace it, I have never seen a rebuilt T-56 from GM last very long. Mine only has about 4K on the clock and already pops out of 3rd, with a quality GM rebuild. Also been through 2 other rebuilds from the dealer, under warranty. Maybe they just can take the gear banging <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

The Viper shaft is a good idea, but VERY expensive and I doubt a GM tech would have the nuts to try it. You could also get everything cryo treated, but thats $$$. Also, none of this can be supplied by a GM dealer. They only use genuine GM parts for rebuilding. The t-56 can be beefed up, but it takes some cash. Pay your rent and let them do their thing, we'll worry about upgrading later <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

When my M6 finally dies a violent death...A4 or th400 goes in. It is way to expensive to rebuild a T-56 for racing. Or to have it fail after the GM boys have rolled you for over a grand. Great tranny till you mess it up.

 

I would take the car up there..park it in the bay they want it to be in ..and pull the computer out/disable the nitrous...kill the car somehow. Write down the odomiter setting..let them know you did this...etc. I wouldn't trust them on a "test drive" to see how the tranny is working. Just alittle CYA advice. Sounds like you found a mod frindly dealer though..thats cool.

Everyone that I have known that got their T56 rebuilt never lasted that long after it was rebuilt. Maybe you can slip the tech or service manager a 100 bucks and he'll R&R a new one in there for ya! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

 

Well, they called me today. Said the internals on mine were too far gone. Said they ordered an 02 T56 yesterday and I should be rolling tomorrow afternoon. I got to check out mine and it was definately trashed. Worn synchros, worn gears, 3rd/4th shift fork looked slightly bent also. All in all Im damn sure a happy camper. Brand new trans under warranty.

BTW, I wrote down my odometer reading and took the bottle with me. So far I cant say a bad thing about this dealer, but theres no reason to give them a chance to screw up.
