Default 4.10's in a M6 practical?

I am thinking of changing the gearing, from stock to 4.10's. This car is my daily driver, so i need to know about the gears. Do you find yourself shifting an assload more, and what are the RPM at 70mph in 6th? How much of a difference do they make, and are thye worth it?

Absolutley! Probably my best mod to date. Driveabilty is no different. Yeah, you shift a bit more, but its no big deal. You get used to them really quick. At 70mph the rpms are only like 1800 or so.

Still very drivable on the freeway. You don't actually shift "more", you just shift sooner in 1st-2nd. As the other guy stated, you are only around 1800 rpm at 70 mph.

Great Mod. I loved mine. No difference to me while on the highway.

4.10's in a six speed are way cool... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Now 4.56's in a six speed are just Bad ***! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

Okay,As lame as this sounds, how about gas mileage?
Is there an appreciable differnce in e.t. between 3.73 & 4.10?,OR even a 3.42?The reason I'm asking is I want to do a gear change & have this notion that 4.10's would be overkill.
Seem's that if the motor makes good power that the car's gonna be fast regardless of final drive.I've seen 2.73/A4 equipped cars do quite well.

I plan on adding 4.10s next and the RPMs are around 2000

Gas mileage doesn't really suffer much. 4.10s are NOT overkill for an M6. 3.73s are not worth it. I'd say 4.10s (with a good tire) are woth 2-3 tenths over 3.42s.

Yes that is fine, but put in a 12 bolt, with 4.10 gears you will kill your stock axle. That is not! reccomended.

with Nittos you should be ok. Just race from a roll and if you do run from a stop just feather the launch and your rear should last with the TA girdle. My buddies rear lasted 2.5 years..

How will stock axles hold up with the 4:10s after the addition of a T/A girdle & stud kit? This is assuming driving with street tires.

If you have Nitto's yes but otherwise you won't be able to maximize your traction and take advantage of the lower gear ratio.

My 4.10's in the stock rear end did not last long at all. About 1 launch at HRP at 4,000rpms on slicks. Here is the real kicker, I broke my brand new Moser 12 bolt with 4.56 gears on the 1st launch at HRP, broke the posi, now I have a spool. No prob. now.

Best of Luck.

Coach that sucks.. HRP must be an awesome track.. Sounds like people hook during launching..
