How long to R&R T56?
A local performance shop wants to charge me 6 hours to R&R a T56. That's not rebuilding it, just removing the tranny and reinstalling it, as there were other issues and the rebuild was handled by another local shop.
They claim they're getting this information from a Mitchell's guide, and that it is a maximum time. If it takes less, they'll discount accordingly.
Now, I have Grot longtubes & their y-pipe, which is welded to the cat-back. Even so, another local shop who previously has R&R'ed the tranny only takes 1.5-2 hours to perform this task.
How long should it take? I guess since the tranny's already out I'll just have to eat whatever it costs, eh?

To get the transmission IN and OUT (with all the dissasbley) takes me about 3 hours. 45minutes of that is just getting the damn tranny lined up!

It doesn't matter how long it takes if they charge by the labor guide book. I'm thinking it was between 4.5 to 5 hours if I remember right. If the exhaust takes extra work they can charge for that too.
FWIW I can do them in an hour if everything is laying out and ready. I sure wouldn't only charge for an hours worth of work though. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
