Default My clutch is slipping...

Okay, I have a Spec 3. I installed it 10 months ago and it has about 3,500 miles on it. Oh and about 25 1/4 mile track passes. I broke it in for 500 miles before any track passes. I also installed Mcleoud adj. master cylinder and new gm slave with it too.

What is happening is my car will launch perfect cut a 1.6 sixty foot but when I shift to 2nd, 3rd and sometimes 4th the clutch is spinning like crazy. I can feel the clutch spinning and watch the rpms climbing.... I don't understand because I tried doing no burnout tonight in which I cut 1.71 sixty and it still slipped in 2 and 3rd gear.?. I am haveing to pedal the car to make the clutch stop slipping so I can finish the pass about a half of second slower than usual. Anyone have any recommendations???

replace with something like a Textralia...or something along that line
its just what ive read and heard numerous times man...since it hooks but doesnt hold after that, maybe its your friction disk...or the material the cluth is made out of...

My car just started doing the same thing as LightEmUp's car. I can ease into the gas but if i push down on it quick 5th gear will shake the car real bad and 6th will just 'free' rev.... Is my clutch going out? I have a spec 3 in a 98 T/A.

are you guys sure your tires arent spinning....
if they arent..then your cluth isnt grabbing....time to step up the friction material...
good luck

Yea I know my tires arnt spinning, what I dont understand is how come my clutch only acts up in 5th & 6th gear? If it was going out wouldnt it be slipping in every gear?

the clutch will slip more and more with more load, thus higher gears = more slippage

I just got back from driving it around town and it felt fine going from 1st to 3rd, as it does going through them 1-4... highways suck now since i cant gain any speed without the clutch slipping unless i go down to 4th gear bye bye gas mileage

Spec is like the worst clutch company ever from all these reviews. And FYI. on the vette forums I heard a lot of nasty things about the LS7 clutch. Such as if you dump it from 2500 or more, you are going to glaze over the friction disc.

I've dumped over 2500 in my Spec 3 and it lasted over 10000 miles

you mean the LS7 clutch?

What's up man...

So far I've had my Spec 3 for about 1 year...and it slips ALL DAY! Now I can literally put it in 1st gear, let the clutch out...and guess what the car does.......It just sits there, no stall, no movement...completely sits there and idles.....At this point I now have to rev the car to make it move, and about at 4000 RPM it starts moving like a snail and then finally engages after a series of chattering...

Piece of advice...Get rid of the thing and never buy another one...I feel your pain..and it's only gonna get worse if you don't swap it out now.

Reg: Same thing with mine. Before it came to my post above, I would put it in 6th gear and press the gas and my RPM's would just climb...This is the sign that SPEC 3 fu**ing sucks......we all make mistakes...let's just not buy another spec 3

my spec 3 slips but it held fine in 5th or 6th.when at the strip on et streets i would launch rather easily but shifted hard and the shift light stays of for a second or 2 then it grips, same for the 2-3 shift.motor is out and my flywheel looks pretty rough.

My Spec 3 started slipping also and had only 10k on it (1.5 yrs) and you should see what shape it was in when we took it out Saturday. We took pics of it and I'll post them up. The pressure plate was bad and had worn grooves from the rivets into the flywheel. The disk also was just about paper thin. I'll never buy a Spec again. Its CRAP!!!
