Default i think my T56 just bit the dust...please help

Hey guys/gals

I've got full bolts ons and exhaust...so there isn't crazy levels of HP going through the tranny/clutch...

Anyway, I've got the stock clutch in there, and I can tell that it is about to go ..it sticks to the floor, doesnt grab...just all around **** when driving hard...

Anyway...i hit it a few times today getting to the high way and around town and all of a sudden I had NO gear except 4th on the highway, everytime i tried to shift gears it just was grinding..so I quit doing that...the clutch pedals was moving...but I do not know what the hell was going on...

basically it quit working...

when I tried to go into 5th, it felt like it was completely stuck...not good...

so I had to pull off of the HWY in 4th...i had to go from stop light to stop light in 4th all the way back to my house...

now it is grinding a lot..and popping out of gear...

WHAT THE HELL???

please help...t56 rebuild?..clutch??
Erik

Check your hydraulics for air and/ or fluid quality. Is one of your mods headres? If so check/ insulate the feed line from the heat.

Don't know if this helps or not but... mine started to grind a little going into third. Only happened once in a while. Then it started doing it going into fourth and one day got stuck in fourth. Finnaly tore it apart and found the 3 - 4 slider keys stuck to the magnet. Just got off the phone with T-56 rebuilds...

if fourth gear only works...it sounds like it could be countershaft related.

No he had broken slider keys. Nothing wrong with the cluster thank goodness. Those things are expensive.

hmm...
ok
well I guess I will drive it again and see what happens...
car is only going to get more powerful..I may just invest...and get a 9" at the same time....screw it..haha...
how hard is it to drop the tranny and inspect it...is there a "service window" in the side like some tranny's....or do you have to crack the case apart...

Thanks

Sounds like the clutch to me - transmissions don't tend to just go out that quickly, and since you say the clutch was acting up, thats what I'd suspect first.

First thing I'd do is drop the trans and replace the clutch. After you install the new clutch and reassemble everything, bleed the hydraulics and take it for a test drive. It should engage and disengage predictably, and the trans should shift well. If it still won't go into gear, then the issue is with the transmission internals as well, and probably needs to be rebuilt.

Very good idea, I was thinking the clutch may be the culprit as I really havent banged on the tranny to much...ya know
