DAMN Clutch!
So I am sitting at this light, car in nuetral, clutch is out, waiting for the light to turn green and this nissan 350z comes flyin up next to me in the right lane. I am like ok, traction control off, car into first, clutch pushed in, wait for light. Light turns green and I slip the clutch a little bit so I get traction (20*F out so roads are really cold), I start haulin *** and when I go to shift for second the tach jumps and car goes nowhere so I think damnit clutch is slipping, so I go for third, same result so I just shifted to fifth and gave up, looking like an idiot.
Now right after this (like 30 seconds later on a different backroad I turned off onto) I did the 5th gear at 30mph test and floored it and clutch grabbed like it was new, I did a few more runs from 0-90 or so and clutch grabbed each gear real hard, so my question is why the hell did it slip so damn bad just from launching with a little slip? Is my clutch going bad or something? There are no other signs of it going bad, and I haven't had this happen before so should I be worried? or was it just a coincidence (sp?) with slipping it a little etc?
you almost think it's slipping and it is, but you have a tough time catching it on the tach and speedo, you just feel something is wrong in the pull in 1st and 2nd at WOT.
When I started getting that feel in 3rd as well, I was sure I had a slipping clutch and finally caught it in the act on a first and 2nd gear pull.
It never failed the 5th and 6th gear test, but when I pulled the clutch it had heat marks and was tinted blue. Clutch material still had plenty of life to it despite 70k miles. Probably could have gone another 70k with a lite resurface.
I switch to the LS7 and it's much much nicer of a clutch over stock.
So basically the clutch is probably slipping because of heat marks most likely, but still probably has plenty of life left?
I don't have the money for a new clutch and won't anytime soon so I just want to make sure everything is fine.
Thanks for any input guys.
