Default is shifting suppose to be rough

when shifting into gear specially 1st and 2nd sometimes 3rd they usually dont go in smoothly most of the times i have to put some force into it, seems like it goes through bumps or something i dont know, does anybody know??

this seems to be such a problem with t-56's. I just wish it could shift smoothly... hopefully a tranny rebuild and new clutch/flywheel will do it.

Ive just recently learned more about manual transmissions...so forgive me if any of what I spout off is common knowledge or incorrect. My LS1/T56 swap into my 87 is my first manual car that Ive owned...and its a fairly built motor, with a lightened flywheel...so I had to step up to the learning curve fast.

Anyway... First gear is almost impossible sometimes until Im going around 10mph or slower. It will shift in like butter as long as Im going under ten...and it will either not go at all, or feel like crap if I try it anywhere above 10. But Ive been told this is normal manual trans syncro behavior.

As for shifting into 2nd and 3rd... Some things to check. make sure you have the correct type and fresh fluid in the trans. I made the switch from Dexron III to Penzoil Syncromesh and I could feel a difference. Others have better luck with plain old Dexron...you gotta try and see if that helps. Some other simple things... Make sure nothing is preventing the clutch pedal from going all the way down. I.E. floor mats or carpeting.

Also, another big one is making sure the fluid for the clutch hydraulics isnt really black. If it is...you should flush and fill it, then bleed your clutch really well.

Some people will tell you to do the drill mod...and I would too...but I dont know for sure if that would help ya. Im sure someone else will chime in with some definites. But...check the simple things first before you start to worry about a rebuild. I see that you have some mods done to your car already...so everything Im saying might just be stuff you already know...

Its a common occurance with the T-56's. Mine has done that from almost day one. Bleeding the clutch helped a bit but it is still notchy.

The t56 is a little notchy, but it shouldn't ever have to be "forced" into gear. Sounds like it's time for a rebuild.

My car started to shift like **** after I did my clutch 3 years ago. I think its more on the lines of an hydraulic issue. I need a t56 rebuild, and a new slave any way. my other car an 01 SS, I installed a new clutch, i didn't even bleed it, it shifts so good, like butter!

I don't find the t56 to be as bad as some, but I definitely haven't ever driven one that shifts like "butter." When I think of a tranny shifting like "butter" I think of honda transmissions, or my roomates 350z. The shifts in that thing are as slick as owl ****. I'm curious to know what you guys are comparing your t56's to?

+1 What are you guys comparing the t56 to? I know my t56 is notchy as hell and most of the people around here with t56's seem to have issues shifting them fast at the track.

i was having issues with missing third gear and having the clutch pedal fall to the floor when i was powershifting 2-3....the only way i can hit third now is if i shift slow...kinda sucks, but when i do the clutch im going with an all new master/slave cylinder and doing the drill mod...hopefully this will eliminate the problem

My 01 shifts oh so very smooth, other fbody owners that have driven it also mention how smooth it shifts... some t56's are just awesome like that. My 94 wasn't nothy even.

I shift my t56 faster and smoother than any tranny I have shifted before, over the 350z, any mustang I have ever driven and thats lots, my impreza, any impreza, any honda... oooo, my celica was smooth but I prefer the t56, dsm's shifted like butt..... I could go on.

That's horrible if they are having problems shifting them fast, my hurst short throw and short stick helped lots but you cant shift one faster than I do my t56 with the t handle... so smoooth.

They are talkin about the line that goes from the master to the slave. you drill the end that goes into the master with a 1/8 bit.
