Centerforce Clutch

Re: Centerforce Clutch
I have the centerforce dual friciton on my 00' Firebird. When it was installed I also had a new flywheel installed. The clutch grabs great. (I made 448 to the wheels with my Vorteched car.) The only complaint I have is ch-ch-chatter. Especially after some stop and go driving. You either have to get the revs up a little and come off the clutch pedal real quick, or slip it a lot to keep it smooth.

Re: Centerforce Clutch
I hated mine. Low pedal engagement. Blew up around 3k miles. CF blamed it on the chevy dealer resurfacing the flywheel and not replacing the pins. This clutch's PP tends to drag the disc across the flywheel and hot spot it a lot. An adjustable M/C may address the stronger than stock PP probs, but there are better clutch setups out there that have evolved much further than the CF DF over the last 3-4 years.
I prefer SPEC's new ones.

Re: Centerforce Clutch
Centerforce clutch's are not a good idea for an LS1. I 'had' one (notice the emphasis on had) and it didnt last for a month. Now my friend has one in his 2K2 Trans Am (stock) and he loves it. He also had the clutch balanced to the flywheel. That seems to be the key to making them last. I would recommend a Spec III or Mcleod Twin. I personaly think the McLeod is the way to go, but $1300 bucks for a clutch is pretty steep. Go with the Spec III. Its cheap and effective.

Re: Centerforce Clutch
FWIW, I bought a Spec III Kevlar DISC ONLY for $199 I believe. Used the rest stock clutch setup and it's lasted 1.5 years, no significant probs. My slave is starting to act up a little again. Gonna change the fluid and cross fingers. Overall very happy with SPEC. Their new PP setup is worthwhile now too.
