Default Gen 1 smallblock to T56

Does anyone know what kind of problem I would have mounting a T56 to a Gen 1 small block? I heard that there are only two mounting holes that won't fit and you could get away with that. Sounds really risky to me. Thanks in advance.

Default gen 1 small block to t56

I have a friend that did this. You will want to find an lt1 t56 not and ls1. The lt1 t56 are the exact same bolt pattern as the gen 1 small block. Hope this helps. Josh

Then you can call up Centerforce or Spec and get the flywheel that they make for this conversion. Then just use an LT1 clutch of your choice.

Or you can use a McLoed adapter plate with the LS1 T56 AND an old school 4 speed bell...like I did.

I have a 1999 LS1 F-Body T56 in my '82 Z28 using a Lakewood scattershield (#15015), McLeod adapter plate (#8-207) and extended pilot bushing (#8-1094). All bellhousing forward clutch components are stock dimension for the '82, albeit aftermarket replacements.Lakewood bell,Lakewood adjustable ball stud,Lakewood HD clutch fork, Centerforce DF clutch, Hays billet steel flywheel, and ARP bolts throughout.I then made my own spherical rod end clutch linkage pushrods (about 6 years ago) , and reinforced the z bar ( w/gussets).

Bell back I have the McLeod adapter plate (#8-207), then the '99 T56 with a Pro 5.0.

I built my own crossmember from scratch to leave ample room for the head pipes (of the y pipe) to better "tuck" under the car off of the Hooker 2210 LT's.

This was my swap from the factory Borg Warner Super T10 my car came with.

I have the added driveability the T56 offers, and even if I pop a clutch it will only run me around $250-300 to replace

#8-207 $228 (Summit)
#8-1094 $39 (McLoed direct)
LS1 T56 $1100 shipped (CamaroZ28.com member and supposedly rebuilt)
Pro 5.0 $175 (Thunder racing)
Cut/balance driveshaft $140 (Local shop)

All of the bell forward parts I already had in the car as I used them with the original 4 speed.
