Wont go in gear or won't stay in gear? Mine grinds and pops out of gear, but my clutch is shot. Hopefully that is my problem, maybe yours as well?

Unhappy Reverse gear

Wow! This just happened to me today! Scared the sh*t outta me.

So, who knows what the problem is!?!? God I hope it's nothing major!

I have to slam the shifter to the right and almost push down to get it in reverse. I hope someone can help...

I've three manual cars and had a similar problem. It would be hard to put it in reverse, so one day I put the car in first gear first than in reverse and wen into reverse every time with no problem.

I found that this method works very well for me also.

I tried that several times today, but it didn't work. I had to very forcefully push the shifter to the right, which didn't help my arm that I just had a cortisone shot in! I'm really hoping this is something simple!

I would be pretty confident that your clutch is bad or the shift forks are worn.

I have also heard that the solonoid can act as a reverse lockout kinda. You may check your connections at the tranny.

Wow! Somebody who's first post is attempting to help rather than asking a stupid question. Amazing! Also, these trans DO have a reverse lockout solenoid, so that would be the first thing to check.

I hope you weren't directing the "stupid question" comment to me. I've posted many times on the LS1 board, I'm new here. So what?

I would first check the reverse lockout solenoid to make sure it is plugged in. If that checks out, my next guess would be to check the fluid in your master cylinder reservoir (see if it's black). If it is, try flushing then bleeding the hydraulics to see if that fixes the problem. Lastly, I would suggest it's your synchros going out. Let us know what you find.

I wasn't trying to insult anyone, I just rarely see a post count of 1 attached to a helpful answer. It's a pleasant surprise. And my comment was directed at totalcomfort.

I do that every time. It's always easier to get into reverse.

Not sure why but it's the same way in my car and I just did the same thing with my dad's Peterbilt (eaton 18spd )
