Default Everyone with T-56 Problems

Everyone that has had T-56 problems
I took my car to the dealership and they fixed it b/c it got stuck in gear and kept popping out (popping out since the week I had the car w/ 104 miles on it), well 750 miles after being fixed by them and no hard driving WHATSOEVER its doing the same thing again, also while its stuck in 4th when I try to get it out it vibrates, Well they are denying to fix it under warranty this time saying Its my fault this time, well I am making a list of everyone that has had Problems. So EVERYONE PLEASE LIST YOUR SCREENNAME, CAR, AND WHAT PROBLEMS YOU'VE HAD AND WHAT THE DEALERSHIP DID TO FIX IT AND IF THEY FIXED IT MORE THAN ONCE TELL THAT TOO. (I.E. ZULater01: 2001 Z28 M6, Popped out of gear and stuck in gear, fixed under warranty 1st, denied 2cnd. EVERYONE thanks for the help and hopefully this post will create a bunch of responses leading to helping me and others get something fixed that was orginally messed up.

I have gone 3 through trannies.

1 - popped out of 3rd - tranny replaced under warranty

2 - popped out of 3rd - tranny replaced under warranty

3 - wouldn't even go into 3rd - refused warranty - they didn't like the nitrous

- ended up having the entire tranny rebuilt -long story - my pocket book is still screaming

2 things are the weak points on the T-56: 1) 3/4 gear shift fork is made out of stamped out alm (the fix is an aftermarket steel shift fork from D&D); 2) 3rd gear syncro - it is held in place with a spring under 2 flimsy *** 'pasted' on tabs.

Usually these are the 2 biggest problems. According to the person that re-built my tranny the taps on 3rd gear break off all the time.

Of course the stock hydro system sucks also. Any after-market adjustable master and the drill-out mods help also.

David

i feel your pain. my car did the same thing since the day i drove it off the show room and got worse over time. finally i could not take it popping out of 3rd gear anymore so i brought it in. well they "fixed" it and i was happy for about 2 weeks and 3rd gear crapped out again, so i brought it in AGAIN and they "fixed" it again.
so i go pick it up and drive it to my house 3 blocks from the dealer ship and it gets stuck in 4th gear and starts poppin out of 3rd gear AGAIN. so i brought it back AGAIN and said i dont want it fixed i want a new tranny, well they drove it and said NO PROBLEM FOUND!@!!!! by this time i was already on a first name basis with the service manager, who was very helpful by the way, so i went up there and told them i dont want the car, they can keep it untill it gets a new tranny, so it sat there for about 2 1/2 weeks or so.
finally i called Detroit and explained my problem, email me and ill send u a phone number that works well, and viola the next day the dealership called telling me the tranny would be in by 5:00

make sure and be persistant, i know 3 good friends who have had the exact same problems with their trannys and all the cars were bought BRAND NEW and not ragged. i hope this helps man, lemme know if u need any other information.

This sounds crazy but I absolutely don't trust dealerships to do any service work on my car. The only guys that I let service it are those that I see at the track that work for specific dealerships. I'm pretty sure that if you hooked up with some of them it would be in your better interest for getting warranty work done.

As a result I have always opted to fix most of what goes wrong myself, except it's always an upgrade. For instance, at the moment my T56 popped out of 4th gear (actually ground it's way out when I let up on the clutch). I dropped it off at D&D Performance and asked them to do what they can to make it bullet proof. They should have it cracked open tomorrow and let me know what's broken while they are at it. It's fairly inexpensive to overhaul, about $250 in labor plus parts. Fairly cheap to have a more solid trans under the car!

I work on em' and that shop is They f-up get them to fix it under warranty or go elsewhere. They don't have a reason to blame you do they?

Ive had the same thing happen to me. As a matter of fact so has my sister. We bought 2 cars the same day from the same dealership. Hers went 1st 2002 ws6 syncros we gone and 4th gears were broken. Also, she heard somthing that sounded like change jiggling in the ash tray, yet none was there. She took it in and the tranny mount was broke in half! She only has 3500 miles on the car and almost has owned it for a year. Mine started at 5000 miles (2002 ws6). I took it in because I tried to take it out of 4th gear and it locked in there but I finally got it out. I would go around corners put it in second and it kept popping out of gear. They told me that 1-4 syncros were gone, 4th gear chipped, warped fly wheel, and clutch was gone (which it wasnt). Hopefully the problem wont come around again...

The main reason for the problems with 3rd and 4th gears is due to our stock clutch setup. Those keepers on the 3/4 slider will break because when you shift without the clutch completely disengaging the blocker ring can't slow down the gear fast enough and the keepers snap.

Get a McLeod adjustable master and do the drill out mod. Have you ever noticed that the LT1 cars didn't have near the problems that we have? They have a good working clutch setup. The sliders, gears and blocker rings are all the same. The LS1 clutch seup just blows.
