Default T56 need help

What are all the 9 and 10 or 11 second cars using for 6 speeds? I'm looking for a tranny that will take some abuse and that will take some good torque. I already broke 1 tranny and I dont want to keep going through this. Is there anything different that you guys are using? Any info is greatly appreciated.

i dont run 9's or 10's i have ran 11.8's lonching the car like a sissy, good lonch and i'm 11.5's on motor.ok....the t56 is a so-so tranny and at this point their is not alot of aftermarket parts for them. but, in detroit michigan there is a place called D&D PERFORMANCE and they have parts to beef up the t56. one of the parts that seems to die is the shifting fork, i think the're plastick or something but you can buy a steel one and all other t56 parts at d&d. i hear a company in michigan is working on more and better parts for the t56. hope this helps you, good luck.

Thanks for the info but I have already bought some syncros and a shift fork from d@d although I haven't installed them yet. I launch the car @ 5500 rpm and it hooks like crazy. I've never had a t56 apart before but the way 6th gear looks I would guess and say it looks like the gears crash into each other only because 6th is destroyed and I never shift 5th or 6th hard. I under stand that leaving @ 5500 is going to cause some severe strain but I also know there are guys leaving this high. what now???????????

ChrisB is working with ChrisK at http://www.speeddemonmotorsports.com (sponsor link on the right) for a Billet output shaft for the T56. See this link:

https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...c;f=2;t=003538

The other problem (that took my friend LJ out of the 6-speed game) was that the input shafts can be weak too. He has a 10.d'oh car (almost 9's), and after twisting his output shaft and fixing it, he snapped his input shaft on the very next trip to the track. He gave up and went TH400.

I don't think there are any 9-second T56 cars.

Damn thing is only rated to 450 ft-lbs... you can't expect much. D&D doesn't really offer much to help either. I've talk with the guy and he thinks his blocker rings and gears are the same as stock. He does sell the iron shift fork for 3,4 so I picked that up and had it installed. My tranny man says it's not really the forks though... he thinks the synchro assemblies are just crap. BTW FYI stock forks in the fbody T-56 are aluminum. I've given up building a strong T-56 and am now researching some real trannies. I don't really care about 6th, but I do want ONE overdrive gear. All roads lead to $$$$ unfortunately. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

rambird2002,
it's funny you mentioned 6th gear. my tranny has been rebuilt twice under warranty (at 18k miles and and 34k miles) because sixth gear would just grind. weird because i never race or speed shift going into sixth. doesn't make sense to me. but my tranny is and has always been very very notchy. i just think i got a crappy one from the factory. when 6th blows again (i predict in another 10k miles or so), i will get a new tranny.
