I personally feel that one the 2nd gear synchro is shot, but not 100% sure.
Here are the symptoms:
1. Tranny will rarely engage 2nd gear unless the car is moving or I shift though another gear first.
2. When it does not engage 2nd it only goes in half way and when I let the clutch out it grinds.
3. Shifts fine into 2nd when doing some normal driving.
4. Will not allow me to downshift into second at 55mph
5. Once I'm around 45mph it will take about 3-5 full seconds to let the shifter slide into 2nd on a downshift.
6. Will allow me to downshift without force if my speedo is at less than 40mph.
Any ideas folks?
I really do not have the money right now to get a RPM Transmission or one through T56Rebuilds, however it is tempting. Has anybody used one of these companies tranny's before? is the notchness gone, or are they prone to break just like the oem setup? What parts would I need to make this tranny smoother and have crisp shifts?
Any sponsors offer Military Discounts on a rebuild? My car is a daily driver, so I can't really let her sit for over 3 days. (over a weekend)
Thanks
Chris

Well i just had my transmission rebuilt not to long ago, I ordered the parts from T56rebuilds.com, great people to work with, and had a guy I know at a dealership rebuild it. Does sound like its synchros, to me at least but theres plenty more knowledgable guys out there. Do you match the revs when you downshift? Your second gear may also be getting chipped up, and is it only second gear that you have problems with?

I received an email from Amber at T56Rebuilds and she mentioned that the synchro repair kit is $500 for the GTO Tranny. OUCH. I didn't think the GTO and the vette had the same tranny. Seems like all the websites have different pricing for the vette and gto tranny.
Something doesn't add up.
