Default Clutch plate worn enough to replace?? (Pics)

How far down do you let the clutch disk wear down before you should consider replacing it??

I tried to take as good of pictures as I could, but you still cant really see how worn it is (or isnt?)

Im asking because I had a clutch bolt come loose and go shooting through the bell housing, and since I had to take it all apart, I plan on getting a billet flywheel, freshen up the Spec 3 clutch, and upgrade the basics in the trans. Some ARP flywheel bolts will be added with red loctite, too
The clutch was installed by the previous owner so I dont know how much material the clutch plate had when it was brand new. It has about 7K miles on it now, and it seems to me that it is worn enough to replace....?

Am I able to buy JUST the spec 3 clutch plate??
Can I upgrade to the spec 3+ clutch plate and just re-use my spec 3 PP and whatnot?

Thanks in advance!!!

I'll do that when I get home. Thanks!!

Can you answer the other questions in my original post, about buying the spec 3+ clutch plate alone, and if it will work with what I have now, etc.....

Brian

You cannot use a stage 3 plate and a stage 3+ disc. These discs have different thicknesses and are thus incompatible. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks,

Thanks for the info!

Would I be able to purchase just the spec 3 clutch disk?

I'll be buying a billet flywheel also, if that helps.

the friction plate still looks good, your not even down to the rivets yet!!! LOL

also did you do the 4th gear at 45mph and goose the gas test yet...

that how you check for a slipping/worn clutch....

You can in deed order a disc alone...of course I suggest that you make sure that the plate is in good shape. If it is worn, ie not flat, then you should replace it as well. Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks,

OK......

The disk mic'd out to .295"

I'm guessing what teke184 posted for the disk thickness is for the spec 4, whereas I have the spec 3. At what thickness should I look at replacing the disk?

Can you PM me a price on JUST the spec 3 clutch disk also? The PP is in great shape yet.

Thanks for the help everyone!

LOL! Yeah, but remember, I'm looking at this plate without EVER seeing what a brand new one should look like. So at first glance, it looks pretty 'close' to the rivets.

The clutch never slipped, its just that since I'm forced to take everything apart I might as well upgrade/refresh the **** while it's all out.

Well,
Jeremy at Spec said you should consider replacing it when it gets down to .290" and I'm at .295". I just ended up buying a new spec 3 clutch disk along with a new billet steel flywheel.

I thought I'd post up the end result for the people who actually USE the Search function.

Haha.. I'll do that next time Jeremy, which might be tomorrow

When I first removed the clutch, I checked the PP for flatness with a ruler. It sat nice and flat on it.
I checked it again today with a metal square after I got off the phone with you, and it looks like it isnt as flat as I thought.
There is an ever so SLIGHTLY taper to the PP. I'm not sure if its enough to bother buying a new one, but I'm guessing after the break in period, the clutch plate should somewhat take the shape of the PP and be OK? Am I right in thinking this? It's probably about 1/64" gap.
Here are some pictures I took with the metal square on it.

Does it look like I should be buying a new PP tomorrow?
