Default T-56 Problems?.....Look inside.

I've had the 56 out of the car going on 4 times <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> now and it only has 5500mi on it. It was always the same thing. Getting stuck in 4th gear/poping out of 3rd/more force than normal to put into gear. They jumped into another m6 car to check the feel of the shift and noticed that it is more difficult to engage the gears in mine. Well my dealer thinks they have finally found the problem. The shaft alignment within the housing is off. It is a bad container that all of the internals are in. Anyways, this is how they explained it. They are having to replace the entire trans. Hope this may give you guys a little info to use when talking with your dealer. I will post more about it after I get back from the dealer next week.

Well here's the deal.

They took it out and disassembled it again. They tried, for ***** and giggles, to do some race setup techniques Ie, grind the shift forks and a few other things to get it to shift smoothly and work properly. What they found is that the shaft for the main gear assembly is crooked in the housing. This is a defect from tremec. If you have experienced the following;

1 - Shifter gets stuck in 4th
2 - Pops out of 3rd
3 - Sit in another car with an M6 and row the gears. If it seems like yours takes more effort to engage then you probably have the same problems I do.

The dealership that found my problem is in Burkburnett Texas. They are a performance parts dealership and the Service Mgr is a race car driver. The dude that did the work is a mechanic for a race team on the side.

Good Luck!

That is exactly what happend to my 2002 Z28...I took the car in at 8xxx miles and told them it was jumping out of third gear. It was also grinding pretty bad when I'd downshift from sixth to third. They said they couldn't duplicate the problem.

I took it in at 11xxx miles because it was jumping out of third gear all the time...and grinding very badly. It had also stuck in fourth gear two seperate times. Each time I beat it out of gear and went on my way. They told me that their tranny guy couldn't look at the car for a couple of weeks.

ON THE WAY HOME from the dealership the tranny locked up between gears and shredded itself. I was told that they had to replace third gear along with the third & fourth gear synchros. I asked if they replaced the shift fork and was told NO. They acted kind of weird when I asked that question. I got a strange look like they were thinking...What all does this guy know?

When I picked the car up the service guy didn't give me a print out of the parts & labor performed. He told me he would have to mail it...This was right after he told me they put a brand new transfer case in the car to make the rear end stop rattling. heh...

If that paper isn't here by tomorrow I'm going back down there to get it.

Got the car back today. If I had known that it should be able to shift like that I would have done something from the beginning!
