guys, i cant shift

guys, i cant shift I cant seem to get it down this year guys!!!! Last year, i woudl row the gears, never missed a shift. Then put the car away for the winter, and drove an automatic car for 4 months (first time in the last 6 years I have driven an automatic car) and now I got the TA back out this weekend to race a buddy of mine with a modded GTP. He ran a 13.2 at the track, im all stock. We raced from a 20 roll on the interstate, and i got the jump on him, hit 2nd, hit 3rd, MISSED 4th and MISSED 5th!!! 
he caught up to about 120, then i walked away. We turned around and did it again, this time i got the jump again, pulled about 2 cars on him, and MISSED 3rd!!!!! 
He got about 2 cars on me, and I was out to get him of course! Walked him down and passed him, had about 2 cars on him at 130. Anyhow, this thread isnt about the race, its about me not being able to shift, what the hell happened????? Would a short throw shifter help me do you think, or just more practice and get back into rowing again!

It takes time to get back into form. A short throw and a shift light will help too. Right now I am real crappy about slow take offs because I only like my car like once a week if the weather is nice. It's been too cold and rainy lately. This summer I should have the car out a lot and get into speed shifting at the track.
It takes some time to get back into the swing of things, a pro5.0 or B&M ripper shifter would help out a lot.
