Default question on shift shaft assembly

hey guys im putting my trans back together and i just need to know how the hell the shift shaft assembly goes together. im good with the main shaft with the 1-4 forks, but the 5-6-R shaft is killing me. does it just rest on the collar? it seems that if i leave all gears in neutral and raise up the 5-6-r shaft a little out of the hole, it will sit on the collar like the 1-4 just fine. is this how its supposed to be or does the shaft have to sit in the hole all the way? thanks guys!

nope, we are talking with the main case off, and the position of the keys that the shift rail pushes and pulls the engage/disengage gears.
