T56 Installation
T56 Installation I HAVE SPENT 3 HOURS ON THE FLOOR OF MY GARAGE TRYING TO GET THIS TRANNY LINED UP WITH THE NEW CLUTCH......YES I USED THE ALIGNMENT TOOL WHEN BOLTING UP THE NEW RAM HD CLUTCH...ALSO A NEW PILOT BEARING......THERE IS VERY LITTLE ROOM FOR ERROR WHILE LINING UP THE TRANNY BECAUSE THE MOTOR IS TILTED TOWARDS THE GROUND.....HAVE ANY POINTERS GUYS..... 
Spin the output shaft slightly while trying to get the tranny back in, spin it back and forth while pushing on the trans, don't go at too extreme of an angle try to get it lined up dead even with the crank.
Do a search I've gone through this a bunch of times.
Seperate the trans. from the bellhousing first of all if you haven't done that. Much easier to line it up with the bellhousing already installed.
Now, you need to check, and double check your clutch alignment! Use the alignment tool and insert it in and out a couple times. It should slide right in with very little effort.
You need to install the tool in the clutch disc through the pressure plate. Give it a little wiggle, and THEN tighten the pressure plate in a star type pattern. Similar to what you would do when torquing a wheel.
Tighten those bolts evenly, rather than zapping them down all the way; one at a time.
Also, be sure to use some loctite on those pressure plate bolts!.
Once you're positive that clutch disk is aligned properly, and the pressure plate is tight... NOW go ahead and install and tighten the bellhousing. Next install the trans, put it in gear and install it slowly. Once you are semi-lined up with the crank and splines of the clutch disk, wiggle the output shaft and slide the trans all the way in.

right on guys....i appreciate the info.....i wont get off work till 7pm but will be up untill that t56 is in the car.....i did figure out it was too akward to install the tranny with the bellhousing on the tranny.......thanks guys will check back with good or bad info
Crack the bleeder on the slave and get a set of bolts that fit the bellhousing but are longer than stock by a few inches. Cut the heads off of them and use them as a guide to get everything lined up.

after torquing the clutch assembly to the flywheel, you need to make sure that you can still slide the alignment tool in and out VERY easily. if you can, then try spinning the input shaft slightly, and make sure that the trans and the motor aren't at different angles... you will bind the input shaft in the clutch assembly and you'll never get it in there. if you get it to where you can get it in til about an inch or so away from the bellhousing, then just throw the bolts in and slowly draw them all in evenly. sometimes you just need a little more to overcome being on your back in the garage.
