Default 6th gear not engaging ???

My 6th gear will not engage and I am wondering if it sounds like it might an easy repair that I can do myself or is it pretty complicated. I'm very mechanical, but never really messed with transmission internals. Every other gear is fine but 6th gear will not engage. I can pull the shifter into where it is supposed to be but all I can feel is like teeth ratcheting trying to engage. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like its time for a transmission rebuild. Thats not something you can fix yourself unless you have intricate knowledge of the T56 and a gear puller, as well as ither special tools.

So who do people recommend for quality rebuilds ? I was thinking about buying a sixspeedinc rebuild kit and having a local shop build it up.

I had the exact problem in 5th and 6th. Amber @ sixspeedsinc.com says I have a "bent 5-6 shift rail" that caused it.

Don't know if that would be the same thing, but it is likely.

I STRONGLY recommend six speeds inc for your rebuild.

(Amber, if you read this... feel free to correct me if I mis-quoted you)
