rebuilt M6
Hey everyone. I just had my T56 rebuilt and I broke it in nice and slow.. No problems with it. And then all of a sudden on my way home to tucson 6th gear started making noise on me. It was alternating between whining and grinding about every 2-3 seconds. I dwnshftd into 5th and then put it into neutral and it did it in both positions for a second and then went away. I never went back in sixth andthe problem never came up again. Like I said I broke it in slowly, and I put 900 miles on it with no problems, made a couple of 1 or 2 hour trips using 6th generously. I just dont know why all of a sudden something would go haywire. Have any ideas??

What style T56? What fluid did you use and what was replaced during the rebuild? I would suggest trying it one more time and see if there are any new symptoms. What clutch and hydraluics and where they replaced when you rebuilt? Just general questions so I might be able to help you diagnose.

The stock T-56 was for my 98 lS1. I am not exactly sure of all the specifics but I believe it was a full rebuild. I also had my clutch and flywheel replaced with stock replacements. I told the shop that rebuilt it to put in a synthetic fluid but they did not have any in stock so they just used regular tranny fluid. I am not a tranny guy so that is as really as specific as I can get. I will try it in 6th again again and see if the symptoms return. I still havent had any problems with other gears. Thanks for the help.

Well, I went and tested my 6th gear again today. I was on the freeway for about 20 miles going around 70. The noise did repeat and I noticed no problems w/ any of the gears. if you were wondering this is how it was broken in...
0-499 miles = Max RPM 3500
500-700 miles = Max RPM 4000
700-800 miles = Max RPM 4500
800-1000 miles = Max RPM 5000
1000+ miles = 5500 RPM
For now I hope it was just a fluke, I will keep an ear out and see if I notice it again and I will let you know. Thanks for the help.
