If your trans is still stock, you have the aluminum 3/4 shift fork. If you like to shift hard, you will eventually damage the fork and will have the clash shifting/ sticking in gear issues the other folks here have described. There is an iron fork available that fixes the problem but requires a full teardown to install.

Much like yourself truzls1 am going to wait until it does happen again, that being said my symptoms were slightly different as mine was in fourth gear and continued to be until I applied moderate force to the shifter to get it out. I Found an article at Pontiac high performance http://www.highperformancepontiac.co...ion/index.html that has details on how to rebuild / step-by-step but does not include a parts list. As recommended in this write-up they replaced the 3-4 shift fork (tremec), synchronizer rings with carbon fiber ones (Rockland) and a silicone bronze extension housing bushing. Does anyone know if one company that sells everything needed to strengthen a trans or does it all have to get purchased from separate sources?

If the trans was in 3rd or 4th gear when it got stuck the chances are extremely high that it was the synchro keys and the trans should be rebuilt before more damage is done.

However, if the trans was not it gear I'm not so sure that it could have been the keys. I had this happen to me over a year ago and have been driving the Corvette since without a problem.

Can anyone explain this? The shifter is fully into the third gear position. Where would the 3/4 slider be with the keys out of place and the trans not in gear but then when you pull the shifter back into place everything is back to normal.

If anyone can offer any insight I would like to hear it.

In my case, when i shifted into 3rd, it felt like it went into gear with no resistance (nothing blocking it), unlike a typical missed gear. However, the car revved, indicating that it wasn't in gear. So at the time I didn't know what to think, I thought I had lost 3rd gear, but then it drove fine after that, having no problems with 3rd. I guess I will need this to be explained also.

When it happened to me I shifted pretty hard into 3rd, it felt like a normal shift except that the engine kept revving like the trans was still in neutral. It took both hands to pull the shifter back from third into neutral. Since then the trans has been perfect. I think it must be a linkage problem but have not been able to find it. Although the linkage on the Corvette in a bit different from yours.

Sounds like we experienced the same thing. I assume you were racing (full throttle) when this happened?

Not racing but a very hard shift.

Isn't there a good and a bad side to this mod? I know it helps your clutch engage faster, but didn't GM restict the hydraulics so there would be less strain on the drivetrain? Im still not convinced. I see it as a fix for one problem but possibly the cause of another. Is this flawed thinking?
