bellhousing and flywheel bolt patterns
My understanding is that the LS1 bell housing bolt pattern is the same as the original small block. Is this correct? This means that I can bolt a standard chevy small block bellhousing to the back of the motor?
Is the flywheel bolt pattern on the crank flange the same as the small block with the one-piece rear seal?
I've heard that the distance from the flange to the bellhousing face is different and requires a spacer. Is this true?
I guess what I'm getting at is: If I want to bolt by existing small block can and clutch up to the LS1, all I need is a spacer between the crank and flywheel?
Thanks,
Perry

The bolt pattern is similar, but not the same. Using a traditional SBC bellhousing, you'd be able to get a total of 5 bolts in (2 on each side, and one on the top left side).

OK. I can either drill and extra hole in the can, or not worry about it.
I assume that the dowel pin locations are the same then?
Do you happen to know about the crank bolt pattern and length/depth?
