Default Need advice on "clutch pedal play" - biggie or no biggie?

I recently had a Ram Clutch and a McLeod adjustable master cylinder installed and I think it is now broken in as I have a lot less chatter - but I still have some when I ease into the clutch without giving the car gas...
But now I have about two inches of dead pedal - meaning that for the first two inches of pedal travel - there is absolutely no resistance what so ever.. then you feel resistance after that. And trust me - with the RAM clutch you know when you are pressing it in as it is very stiff.. But again for the first two inches or so - there is absolutely no resistance. It feels like you could just thump the pedal with you finger and move it..

Now - does this need to be adjusted? Or is this no big deal?

Thanks!

It is actually good to have some free play at the top of the clutch pedal. This guarantees there is no pressure pushing the slave against the fingers on the pressure plate which could cause pre-mature disc wear/slipping on hard launches. 2 inches is a tad excessive but it won't hurt anything. You can shorten the master cylinder rod to take up some slack.

What Jamie said is exactly right. We usually recommend as much freeplay as possible, just so the clutch shifts cleanly, to keep the bearing off the fingers and avoid loading the clutch with the bearing.
