Aside from basic manual driving, powershift by flooring the gas, when it's time to shift enagage the clutch and shift the gear (the whole time keeping your foot planted on the gas). With the stock cam likes to be shifted around 6000-6200 rpm.

I've never heard of that before, except in the fast and the furious. I don't see how you can "double clutch".

double clutching is when you push the clutch in pull the shifter into the neutral gate, let the clutch out, then push the clutch back in and put it into the next gear. This is used commonly durring deceleration, and mostly truckers do it, but I don't think anyone does it anymore. There's no purpose to it.

It reduces synchro wear and that means a lot on a severe downshift (like 6th to 3rd at 70mph). Most people just do a rev match though.

double-clutching is hardly ever used for acceleration, its used in downshifting. ( "a heel and toe" downshift is more aprpriate in our gearboxes)

You will find people use it alot when road racing, or auto X.
double clutch:

your coming of a straight a 120 mph and you have a 50 mph turn ahead:

1)ease off the throttle, and ease on the brakes with your rightfoot so that 1/2 your foot is on the brake petal (left 1/2)
2)put the clutch in and the shifter to the neutrl gate
3)let the clutch out 1/2 way and rotate your foot and "blip the gas petal".
4)put the clutch all the way in and select the desired down gear.
5)let the clutch out all while keeping your foot on the brake.

if this is done properly, you will not feel a jerk, or ruff rpm change when ever you downshift. It will be very smooooth. It sounds complicated, but after practcing it forr mabe 30 mins with the car off, it gets easier. This is the safest and the easiest way to prevent wear on the tranny. ( if you do it properly)
when i am skipping more than one gear like 140 mph, hard on the brakes for a 40 mph turn, ill blip the throttle twice. one when the cltcuh is out and one when it is back in.

i hope this helps anyone who has ever wonderd about that stuff <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Join the dark side, get an auto...I did ;D NEway, rev matching is used on a downshift. When you shift, push in the clutch and press on the gas pedal enough that when you let out the clutch, the engine and the tranny are spinning at the same speed. It should feel seemless. The syncros in the m6 tranny (any modern day tranny for that matter) will do this for you to a certain degree.

All this double clutching and rev matching talk was more prevalent in the days before syncros. Syncros are designed to help match the tranny speed to the engine speed. They currently make up for driver skill in new cars.

its exactly what it sounds.
if your in 4th and you want to shift to third.. put the clutch in, put it in 3rd and then blip the gas to get the rev's up and then let out the clutch.(easyily) Its so you dont feel the big jerk.
heal and toe is the same thing just wiht different steps and you use the break

You may find rev matching to be helpful. I personally found the greatest enhancement was a high quality clutch w/assoc upgraded parts.

powershifting is where you keep your right foot on the floor, and clutch-gear-clutch really quick. If youre good you will only bounce off the rev-limiter once or not at all. Its only benefit is in turbo cars, because you dont lose boost

Personally powershifting is to risky. By the time you learn how to do it properly, you'll will probably end up rebuilding your tranny or worse yet having to buy another one. You might just want to learn how to shift quickly. Just my opinion.
