Default T56 durability?

I have been researching more about the T56 trans for my swap this winter.
Some of the things I have been hearing is that the 3/4 synchros tend to break easily. Have any of you had these problems? I've also read that the shifter fork tends to get bent and some replace them with steel.
That bad part for me is that the only T56 I can use is the aftermarket version. Apparently the LT1 T56 has an integrated bellhousing?
I'm adapting this to a 455cid big block Olds engine that will also be getting a set of aluminum heads, hydraulic roller cam (238/248 duration@.050, .565"/.565" lift, 110*LSA), Multiport EFI and a 100-125 shot of nitrous. If I don't use slicks will the T56 hold up? I am building the car to be more of an Autocross car than drag strip. HP and torque numbers right now are not known from the current setup. An estimate is in the 350HP/450FT/lb range. With the upgrades it should be pushing 500HP N/A and more with the nitrous.

Are there any special tricks that can be performed on the T56 to help it hold up better?
Thanks for the help!
