Could get an external momentary contact manual switch , but why not just get the right clutch pedal position switch?

yeah you should definately get that sensor for safety reasons. But until then just wire up those wires to where the sensor is supposed to be, then go straight to ground I think it is? that way the car will start for now, but you HAVE to be careful not to hit that starter whith the car in gear!!!!!!!!

yeah i know but what I am saying is I don't know what wires to use is my problem. See it was an auto to start so there wasn't a pigtail to put in a sensor anyways. Once I find out what wires to use then i will get the sensor and hook it up right. Since its my daily I need to get her rolling asap. you follow.. I heard its a purple wire but not sure.

can't remember what color it was but it was one of the wires in the harness at the A4 shifter. just make a quick jumper and go through them til the car turns over. I know the orange has to be connected to ground for the hatch release to work. and I believe the brown is the reverse lights? Purple sounds right? maybe even Red lol. sorry I'm not more help but the answer is in that sticky for you

Believe it to be purple also, but get the wiring schematic out and look for the wire from the ignition switch that goes to the starter. This is where you can splice it into.
I think the A4's used the park position of the shifter, if so then reroute that wire......

ok, last nite at midnite, i got it to start. I hooked the purple stripe wire and green like it said in the above sticky. Nothing happened. I accidentally hit the dark green wire and the green white striped next to some tan wire and bam, she fired right up. So now i am really confused. I did however got my hatch release to wk. yeah.

ok I found my old instructions... all of these wires come off of the harness that connected to the shifter assy.

hatch release you connect the orange w/black stripe to the black wire

clutch safety switch connect the purple w/white stripe and the dark green to the clutch switch, so pretty much wire them together for it to work without the switch.

reverse lights is the light green and brown wires connected to the sensor on the pass side of the tranny.

to not throw a code from the skip shift eliminator you either have to program it out, or wire a 2.2K Ohm 1/2 Watt resistor between the white wire from that shifter assy harness and one of the pink wires from the o2 sensors (constant 12V power)

reverse lockout is another story, you need to switch a wire around on the PCM harness (or get the T56 engine harness) but 98 and 99-02 is set up different.

Ok, great but heres the problem. I have hooked all those wires up, the way you and all the other post have them stated. Nothing, car wont start with the wires hooked up the way your stating and others. For ***** and giggles I took the dark green and touch everywire i could fine. I found a light green with a white stripe wire in a black plug connector with a tan wire. The dark and light green wire with the stripe will start the car when they are touched together? Yeah, i am really confused. I am able to drive the car but I want to make it right. not rigged. I will send you pics if you pm me your email so maybe with you seeing what I am seeing maybe we can get it to wk.

you can rent a mighty vac at autozone or advance probly has them too, still costs you 40 bucks but you get it all back when you turn it back in. I tried looking up the wiring schematics tonight but my head was pounding so I'll have to look for 'em tomorrow, I will probably pull my console apart too to see exactly what I did, sorry it's been so long.

Here's the picture of mine. It's better if you cut the connector off and splice the wires together but I didn't know if I wanted to keep the M6 setup yet so I left it on to make it easier later. I need to fix it now though. anyways I'm sure you know the connector I'm talking about, but I have mine wired up exactly like everything is described. The Dark green and Purple w/white stripe runs to my clutch switch which you can see the wires running under the carpet. The light green and brown wires run to my reverse light switch which are the wires taped in orange going under the lower shift boot. and then the orange and black w/white stripe are just connected together for my hatch release to work.

I have no idea why yours is all wacky? makes no sense.
sorry I had a couple other closeup pics but they turned out horrible. but this shows everything pretty well.

oh if you have your connecter still on the wires are all side by side. the two in front are the clutch switch, next two are reverse light switch, and the last two connect together for the hatch

ok, i will try it again. maybe i am just missing something. Maybe there is a ground in the wires that need to be hooked up that will make it wk. IF not then to hell with it. Iam going to go to dodge and get the red Push to Start button they put in the SRT-10 viper trucks. It would also be a theft system along with it. Thanks for your help. I will let you know how things go.

well if you find the two wires that allows you to start the car just use those, maybe for some odd reason they got switched around with your car? But make sure you get your reverse lights to work also.
