The GM synchromesh (or the Pennzoil labeled version which is what's in GM's bottle, only less $$$ at Auto Zone or Advance) is made to be used as a complete fill for the T56.
Other than this, I would ONLY use 4 qts. of regular old, mineral (dino) based Dexron 3 ATF, or Mobil 1 ATF (they only make one version AFAIK). I would NOT use the new Dexron 6 as it is way too thin, and costs even more than the Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Synchromesh.
