Default Shifter?

I have an 02 SS with the stock hurt shifter... i recently blew the **** outa the whole 3-4 assembly and most of the synchros which i was told was primarily from overshifting caused by powershifting...

so for xmas i wanna get a new shifter with jam stops and the whole 9 yards...the problem is picking which one...

my dad is old school and thinks hurst is the only way to go... but idk cuz i have no experiance with the B&M or the 5.0..

so wut does everyone else think based on experiance...

I'm running a Pro 5.0 and I love it. Shifts are quick and precise.

I just installed a Pro 5.0 last night in my car and so far I really like it. I had a hurst shifter in my 96Z and I thought it was equally as good. If I had to pick between the two I would just go with the cheapest, because in my experience they both feel about the same.

Is the stock hurst shifter the same as the aftermarket hurst shifter?

No way is the Hurst as good as the Pro 5.0. I've never used a B&M Ripper, it's supposedly very similar to the 5.0 but the Hurst feels so rubbery to me now after switching to the 5.0.

i've got the Pro 5.0 with Lou's Short Stick, and it's working great for me....but many people love the B&M Ripper better than the Pro 5.0.

from what i hear, the B&M Ripper is a "smoother" shift, and the Pro 5.0 is "notchy" (i can verify that to be true of the Pro 5.0 from first-hand experience).

if possible, see if you can find other people in your area that have each shifter, and if they will let you "play with their stick" to get a feel for it.

If your going to drive it like a Gorilla you will wanted the Pro 5.0, with the stops set properly it will not allow you to over shift. DO NOT get the short stick, it will create a leverage issue and you WILL have trouble with the 2-3 shift.

We just got dont solving that issue with a rebuilt t-56 and then it was swapped to a SixSpeedsInc m12 GTO trans, turns out the short stick was the issue.

weird....i don't seem to have ever had a problem beating the **** out of my shifter with the short stick on it.....i've never missed/botched the 2/3 shift when powershifting since putting in the new shifter......

I took my short stick off my 5.0 because my MBA shift **** would hit the console in 2nd gear since it was so low. It was fine with the original Hurst **** though if you like that. I cut little over an inch off the normal 5.0 stick and but my MBA **** on it and I think it's perfect.

Had the Billet Plus on my LT1 and the Pro 5.0 on my LS1. They are both great shifters, I like how the handle on the Billet was angled (apparently you can get one for a Pro 5.0, might have to look into that). Gotta say the 5.0 just feels a bit more effortless.

BTW stock Hurst is NOT like the aftermarket Hurst shifter at all.
