Default Am I hurting my synchros?

After 1st gear I started slightly pressing the clutch enough to get the stick into the next gear. I probably press about a little less the halfway down. I don't press to floor anymore after learning that I don't have to. But I was thinking that maybe I am putting extra work on the syncros. I am not fully sure on how the syncros work, but I know what they are there for. Can someone shed light on this subject for me please?

First, this is going to get moved to the drivetrain forum.

But to answer your question, the synchros will really only slide into gear if enough clutch is disengaged. Now there are vehicles where you can rev match the synchro and slide it into gear (like a Jeep Wrangler). I tried it and it just doesn't want to go in. If you're making hard shifts you may chip the synchro mesh a little bit. But the 3-4 shift fork may go out on you eventually. Mine went out and I couldn't shift into 4th without it popping out of gear immediately. So to sum it up, your not hurting anything unless you are grinding when you shift.

The 3-4 shift went out on me at the track one time when I was powershifting. RIght after I put it into 4th gear it popped out and I found out I broke the clutch springs in the pressure plate.

Thats what happened to me at the track.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with internal engine parts therefore it will be moved to Drivetrain. Please try to post threads in their appropriate forums. If I want to read about transmission problems I'll go to Drivetrain. Thanks!
