I kept my 98 master, but changed it 6 months later. The revised 01-02 masters push more fluid. Also do the drill mod and protect and insulate the hydraulic line from heat. I have mine covered with coolant hose, a spark plug fire boot and some aluminum tape. It's stayed fairly clean since being protected like that.

A regular LS1 pilot bearing will be fine
