As the local king of the missed shifts (heh heh), I found that my seating position was probably the root cause of a lot of it. I missed 2nd or 4th on 8 out of 9 runs at the strip. I tilted the seat back a little, and reach around from the front of the shifter, and now I seem to be able to hit 4th consistently.

I moved my seat because of my manual rack. Need more leverage to make turns. Still getting used to everything.

And I hit 2nd instead of 4th a few times in there too. Not fun when the rear end starts hopping around at 90+.

Good luck,

Andrew

does it grind when you try to put it in fourth, or do u just miss it, or will it just not go in that vicinity like the skip shift would do to 2nd gear?

No grind nothing, It falls right into 2nd, just like its in 4th. I even tried stopping in nutral, then into 4th whilee pushing right on th lever. It still falls into 2nd!! I know their is some issue, the builder of the tranny says he never heard of it, it might be my position, But Its the same as it was for the last 43,000 miles ive drivin the car!!! I dont get it. Im going to try moving my seat, if it happens again i'll just pray it doesnt break anything ealse. Good thing for hard push rods and dual vaulve springs!!

cags is only 1st to 4th, I wouldnt mind that. I just thought of this. Maybe I got a loose mount, and the tranny is twisting to the right and makes me hit 2nd instead of 4th!! I'll check that after work. Like i said under no load, 3rd to 4th is fine, under load, 3rd to 4th no good!!!

The slp had none, but the pro 5.0 has them. But i missed with both shifters. I know the stops are ok, i just put the 5.0 in yesterday.
They say its me, so im going to move my seat and try again tonight.

Arent you supposed to remove the stops from the 5.0 that was what i was always told cause the T-56 has internal stops.

The stops are set back far from the shifter. I think they are set so there is no over shift. They are backed off 1 full turn. Thats what the directions said. I also put a ripper in my buddies car, and it was the same way.

I always use the stops. THey are stronger than the internal stops and you WILL NOT break the stops on the shifter....but we've all heard of bent and broken shift parts....if the internal stops worked well, that would not be an issue (in many cases anyway).

Also, make sure you are not grabbing the shifter "side arm" style with your fingers pointed back towards your chest and the top of your hand facing the passengers door, that will help guide you into 2nd. Try grabbing over the top and pointing your fingers at the center console....see if that helps (if you were shifting the other way....)

i dont know what to say, must be something wrong internal or something, im curious myself, i dont think it has anything to do with the shifter, but who knows

Yes, I can shift fine going easy on the car, as soon as Its at WOT, it wont go, It falls right into 2nd! I grab the shifter backwards, But I did try every way possible. I just dont think its me, the shifter, or the way Im sitting, I think its somthing ealse. Im letting on of the guys drive it, We will see if he can get it into 4th. If he can then its me, and I'll have to figure it out. Good thing i still have my stock one, That will be going back in for now.

What about RPM range? Can you go WOT til about 4k rpm and shift into 4th? Do you know if its throttle/load dependent or if its rpm dependent?

well brad we know that richie can drive it
i think that you need to adjust your seat and driving style for that new tranny it shifts like butter rich said and you dont have to man handle it like on a stock tranny

just take some time to get used to it
