Default how far have you pushed your stock T-56?

just wondering.....

i am getting a ls7 clutch but the trans will remain stock for aslong as i can.

its a 04 GTO with a cam and bolt ons made 395rwhp, but i will be adding a procharger (goes in the first week of march)... so it will be around 525-550rwhp. i plan on putting a drag radial on it in april. Will be dragracing at the strip 3-4 times this summer along with some street racing...... not really for money but u get the point.

when will the T56 fail?

yes i know this is a real general question with lots of variables but answer the best you can.

The T56 is a pretty strong tranny. I broke my main shaft around 900 rwhp and 800 rwtq. I am pretty sure the T56 can handle close to 700 rwtq in stock form, so you should be fine at your goals.

call sixspeedsinc, there a sponsor here. They know more about the T56 than you know about the back of your hand. I believe some of the stock parts only reliably hold around 450HP. Some people just get lucky with them. Mine broke ( some washer on the counter shaft melted, gears worn to **** ) and all I have is a lid and TB.

Note: I think alot of it also has to do with how well you drive a stick.

Edit: Also to speedracer5534: I had my broken tranny completely rebuilt using sixspeedincs stage 4 package, which they say only holds 700rwhp. How does a stock T56 hold the same amount of power as a heavily modified/built tranny??

I don't consider breaking a shift pad, slider key, or sychro problem breaking your T56 because of too much power. Any of those issues can be done with a totally stock car. If you break a main shaft or break a gear then most likely you over powered it. I know of many T56s in the 600 rwtq range with no issues.

Six Speeds Inc told me that the stock tranny will support 700rwhp without a problem. Mine went down last march because of a bad 3-4 shift fork, do to previous owner, as many do on here. I had them rebuild it with the 1a package which is basically stock just better insides. You shouldn't have to worry about a thing.
