7 year old thread but people are still gettin info from it...

Haha... I still think my idea from way back about having a pop up window telling you that a thread is old after it becomes X amount of time old is a good idea. I usually only pick up on the dates from the last few posts to make sure its relevant.

Oh well.

you don't need a lift or heated garage, as long as you have the right tools you'll be fine. I don't know what the "jethro" style is but a floor jack or two helps. definitely get a 3 foot extension and swivel sockets, have some 1/2" to 3/8" and 3/8" to 1/2" adapters on hand with an assortment of extensions and universal joints. besides that just some sockets and you'll figure it out. when putting everything back together just remember to put the torque arm on before the driveshaft, I wasted time doing that.
damn thats crazy changing it in our great snowy weather in jersey.
I just took my trans out tonight and used a small jack with a 2x4 across the length of the trans and lowered onto a creeper and pulled it out from under the car. now comes the hard part of getting the bellhousing off lol

all of the above plus unbolt the k member and let it drop 2 inches or so. it will make a world of difference when getting at the top bolts.

My experince with that jack is it isent worth a ****. In are cars you need to be able to tilt the transmission forward to about 45 digrees and back to about 5. And even more depending on how your jackstands are holding your car. That jack dosent tip at all and you end up getting the trany stuck in the cavity. With no way to get it down and than you cant slide under it to lift it down your self. Becouse there is this red pice of crap in your way. After that feasco i bout the harbor fright jack for 120 wich tilts and it is amazing. No more tarany no my chest. It droping and hiting the imput shaft on the bellhousing and i can get it to slide in without running it in with bolts. That is my expirence with the 80 dollar tool. It mite work with a automac with no imput shaft but i have never tryed it.
