Default Anyone converted from A4 to M6?

If you have, could you tell me how much it cost for EVERYTHING, and what the breakdown was? I've been considering this, I'd like to see a realistic list though. I know the little stuff adds up. Also, any impression of the install would be great (pedals, PCM, hydraulics, etc).

I've done this...I went from a 4000 stall/A4 to M6 in my 1998 Z28.
I spent $1200 on the tranny, X-member, shifter, aluminum DS, used clutch.
I then spent another $300 on new master and new slave to upgrade the hydraulics.
I kept my stock PCM and wiring harness...I plan on flashing my PCM with a M6 program and then going thru LS1 Edit again.

This is a PAIN to do, but worth it!
let me know if u have any specific questions.

I love the launch from an M6. Nothing like seeing the shift light (6900) when you are counting down the tree.

T56's aren't difficult to rebuild. Far easier than A4's. Far cheaper too. I rebuilt one on Sunday using a $300 parts tranny and $80 in new parts. Try that with an A4.

First mod I bought for my car was a Cartek clutch, almost 2 years ago. Car was bone stock at the time. The clutch is still good for 1.4x 60's on the juice (3 weeks ago).

I fragged my T56 a while back (my own stupidity). Rebuilt it myself. Put all new synchros, new 1-2 slider, and new second gear in it. Cost? Under $600 for rebuild. Still going.

I was thinking of putting an auto in my car, but I just enjoy the M6 too much, and it's just too easy to work on.

I did the swap aroound Christmas. I found it far cheaper to find a car to switch w/ than purchasing the parts outright. I swapped w/ the same year model Trans Am and everything turned out as good as factory. This is by far the best mod I have done to my car yet. There is nothing like launching at 6000+ rpms and killing solid roller 346's. Nitro Daves-----> in Waco did the swap for $500 a car. Good Luck A4-Bad M6-Good

I did it. M6 is more fun. Just not really tryin to be competetive with the car but like the streetability/fun factory of the M6. Went from A4-A3-M6. If you trade with someone the cost is only like $200 max to swap if you do the labor.

instructions:

- unbolt driveshaft and unplug all wires and lines
- unbolt A4 (or other automatic trans)
- dump auto in some else's garbage (so you don't have to pay for disposal)
- unbolt flex plate and install flywheel
- install clutch
- install T56 trans.
- install short throw shifter
- go drive and finally have a good car

what? you lost me there....

my "instructions" were supposed to be a joke/make a point that its not "that big of a deal".....hence my "dump auto in some else's garbage (so you don't have to pay for disposal)"

I have an a4 and honestly didn't care when i found my '98z28....the price was so right.

After hearing some problems w/mis-shifts, I am sorta glad it's an A4. I do wish I could shift, but must be content

Huh, I forgot about this post.

Just an update, I sold my 2000 A4.

Bought a 98 SS M6 (bolt-ons) and a 99 FRC vette M6 (heads/cam).

Sure, I spent a couple more dollars, but I have two sweet cars now
