that jack is also awesome for taking motors out the bottom. i took my ls1 out that way. just removed the k-frame, put the jack under and unbolted the mounts. cake.

I have never removed a transmission that I couldn't handle "manly" style by dropping it onto my chest. However, I have worked on cars in various states of injury or illness(me, not the car) that required extra tools (such as a transmission jack) to keep from killing myself. Manly is good, but sometimes smart is better.

Hell, I'm all of 5'8" at 145lbs. I've tried being He-Man with a t-56 and learned my lesson. Wish I would have taken the initative to get a little lift like that instead. But what are friends for other than helping out when stuff gets heavy, lol.

I bought one of those at harbor feight last weekend. I have something similar to the wood blocks but made out of a piece 4" wide c-channel iron. I bought it to help me swap out trannies in my deisel truck ( go ahead and try to manhandle one of those with the transfer case hooked up, 300lb for the tranny alone).

I guess being big has its advantages.. Ive taken out and instaled T56s in 3 different cars, probably a total of around 8 times, all without a jack. Im damn good at throwin it up, and lining it up.

I use 2 small ratchet straps. Hook them up across from each other run them under the tranny and ratchet it on up. If you need to come up on just the bell housing end just ratchet that strap. Works better than anything else I've tried when you have to do it on your back in the driveway.

You should have seen me putting the 4l80e in the Syclone with the transfer case attached with the jack stands/floor jack method! Never again will i pull them out or put them in as one unit again.
