Default 3rd gen 454 6speed

Well i have a 3rd gen ta and i bought a 454 for it. I want to hook up a 6speed tranny also. Does anyone know of any 6 speeds that will hook up to a 454 out of an early model gm truck. Im not sure what year the truck is.

No early trucks made with a 6 speed.
But a LT1 style T-56 (93-97) trans will bolt up to it. It is a chevy sbc/bbc bolt pattern.

I've done a few conversions with a T56 behind the BBC and they work out very nicely since the BBC has plenty of torque to pull in 6th gear on the highway .

Stay away from the zf 6 speed, I have one behind a bbc 4th gen, and your better off with the t56. If you dont want to spend the money for an aluminum flywheel you can still use a steel, and you can go with a used one, and if you dont have your motor internally ballanced, there are balance plates you can put behind the flywheel. Any competent machine shop can drill your flywheel to mate your pressure plate to it, whatever set you decide to go with. this works well if you are on a budget!
