Default Problems with 5/6 gear.. grind

When I try to put it into 5 or 6 gear the it pops out or grinds alot and I noticed this morning it was making a ticking noise when trying to put it into 5th gear. What could this be slave/master cylinder or flywheel? PLEASE HELP Thanks...

could be a number of things..

how does the pedal feel? is it mushy?

where does the clutch release?

could be bad hydraulics or synchros

If it's only doing it in those two gears consistently, it's probably the synchros inside the tranny itself and not a clutch problem.

That said, it never hurts to rebleed the clutch, but I think you're going to find it's a tranny issue.

Don't feel too bad. My brother's tranny went with 10,000 miles on the car. The 3/4 synchros went and it needed a rebuild. Just make sure if you rebuild to use upgraded parts from a place like Six Speeds Inc. or D&D Performance so hopefully you don't run into this issue in the near future.

Just send that pile to pick in pull and be done with it. I think there giving people 300 bucks if it is running.

I had the same problem with 5th, it would gring horribly if I tried to put in 5th when cold. Just had it rebuilt and was told the synchros were totaled. Mine had 123k on it though so I wasn't really suprised.

I had the same issue, but it was the shift fork pads. Had them replaced, and it runs like a champ

I spent a little over $100 from "the gear box" for the basic rebuild kit, and $250 for the labor(which was done by a friend of my dad's shop). I think a normal price would be $400ish for labor.

Yeah, definitely sounds like a rebuild. I also agree with static, it would be a rarity for both sides of the synchro to play out at the same time so it's very likely that it's the fork pads riding on the synchro. Shitty cause it's a cheap part to have to tear a tranny down for, on the other hand you won't have to shell out for a synchro. There's one thing you could check though, how's the loose play in the shifter stick, stick it in gear and lightly toggle it around, if there's very much at all, pull out the shifter and inspect the plastic boot that the shifter ball rides on, down in the shift linkage. I think the shifter requires a little bit more travel to reach over to get it in 5/6th especially 6th. I can't reason it looking at the guide configuration that the little ball rides on, but it seems to be that way shifting in the cockpit. I've seen it busted giving too much shifter play, it's a long shot, but you could check it out.

ya it was my 5th gear/ synchro's / bearings which is around 500 - 600 bucks for the parts... plus my clutch was F-UP so got the LS7 clutch set up which is aroun 800.00 bucks... final cost is 2600.00 with labor.. dammnn too much money for me lol.. Does $1,300 for labor sound right to drop a tranny/install clutch/sychros/5th gear/bearings and put all back to work sound right?????????????????

That's too high, figuring a typical shop's gonna charge between 300-500 to swap the tranny in and out, and about the same for the rebuild's labor rounds out the labor, since when did ls7 clutch set up run over 500 bucks, 300 bones premium for the part doesn't sound right at all, the parts may or may not be right on, depending on what exactly they put in. A rebuild kit's gonna run anywhere between 150-500 bucks depending on what parts they replaced, the synchro itself is going to be around 200 for the unit, but the outside sleeve is the only wear component.
