SPEC Clutches
I need to order a clutch for my car ASAP, I was going to the order the spec 3 and billet steel flywheel and I decided to do a little more research. I've looked at every page and searched, it seem like there is mixed feelings on SPEC. You guys either love 'em or hate 'em. I even read on here it's hit or miss with these clutches, I don't understand that. Should I even waste my time? I'll be about 400 at the motor. I'm really banging my head on what clutch to get

This thread will likely show a mix of people that either love them or hate them just like you have all ready found. I fall in the latter category I've had a couple of them and I won't buy them anymore.

1st SPEC sucked......SPEC 3 11k, then went to Ram Powergrip and that blew up at 10k. Went with Textralia and broke the bank but that one felt good and lasted the longest, almost 2 years. Heard good things about the SPEC 3+ so I'm throwing that in tomorrow. We shall see.

The 3+ is a nice clutch and lasts a long time as long as you install it right and know how to drive without slipping the **** out of a clutch. Thats the trick with high HP clutches, you cant slip them much.
I like my 3+, it holds power well, is fairly inexpensive, and drives pretty good.

I had MTI here in Houston put a Spec3 with Billet Aluminum flywheel in my '02 Formula. I instantly hated it. The chatter was so excessive, it shook the entire car, only time it didn't is if you revved it up real hi so the clutch would just bite.
MTI had told me it was normal, and WOULD decrease as miles were obtained on it. It actually got worse, so I called SPEC, they said with the correct 'shimming' it should not chatter at all, or be extremely minimal. Naturally MTI said they shimmed it, when I don't think it was, or even if you can...? lol
Needless to say, I bought a Z06 Clutch shortly after, and love it.

I have a 3+ with close to 2k miles now. Some chatter if you try to slip it. especially in reverse but nothing that I cant deal with. Grabs good, just waiting to see how long she last. Very easy pedal. I'm putting about 410hp to the wheels using 295/45/17 M/T radials.

Those are 28 inches tall right? or around there huh? Do you have any pics? I am running 325/50/15 with a spec 3. I bought the car used and the clutch went out in about 900 miles previous miles unknown but it drove really well before it went out. Gonna order a Spec 3+ today since they say it lasts longer.

The springs just blew right the hell out of it. I was pissed. I only did like 4 passes with it too. The part that really upset me was that when I called them, the guy who aswered the phone was like "bummer" and that was it. I think the clutch was like 9 months old. A few guys have had the same problem with the Powergrip.
